Let’s be honest, when shopping for ourselves there’s no way we would get a fruit delivery from Whole Foods or get our weekly essentials from As Nature Intended. Apart from that one Monday after payday or the office summer party, still drunk/hungover from the weekend, when spending 60 quid on green powder, chia seeds, fresh turmeric and detox tea seemed like a good idea at the time.

For the office though only the best seasonal, organic and pesticide free will do, coz that’s what the boss’ll want obvs. There are loads of non-organic fruit delivery services like www.fruitfuloffice.co.uk and www.ripe.london but that just ain’t gonna cut it when you have ethics and sustainable practices like the below companies.

THE AWARD-WINNING ETHICS (LESS CHOICE THOUGH)
“Boost morale, champion healthy eating and pep up productivity”. Seems like a good enough strapline. Fairtrade, small-scale organic farmers, ethical and sustainable, no air-freight. It’s not obvious what else to say about this. OK well if we’re being picky, there’s only 4 varieties of fruit per box. Bit stingy.

Bananas, Red apples, Green apples, Satsumas, Clementines, Plums, Pears, Peaches, Nectarines, Figs, Apricots, Kiwis, Lychees and lots more. Lots of variety and can be tailored to your requests and how many people in the office but it’s not as simple as clicking on the box you need to ring them to order. Actually speak to someone? No thanks.

THE ORIGINAL FRUIT DELIVERY COMPANY (BUT NOT NECESSARILY BEST)
The original organic fruit & veg deliveries. Seasonal, ethical and organic but there is not much choice in terms of fruit boxes, actually there’s a small one and a big one (original) and the reviews are a bit mixed. 5 varieties of fruit. Can only receive once a week. Not altogether sure why it’s going to be listed here.
PRICE: £17.95 (one large box)

THE NORTH AND EAST LONDON WITH A (KIND OF) USEFUL BLOG
Choose a box and add any extras and order by email or phone. Supports small farmers and re-uses boxes for the next fruit delivery. There is a quite a great section in the customer forum with gardening tips for growing your own vegetables (which would be really useful if there were more than 3 tips on there.) But you can upload your own like – I wish I had a garden to grow vegetables in.
PRICE: £22 for a medium box
DELIVERY: North and East London only

THE ANIMAL WELFARE WITH CLOTHES COMPANY ON THE SIDE
Weekly fruit delivery service of assorted organic fruit bags. Can order directly from the website. The founder of the company is committed to animal rights and she has also set up a clothing brand using British wool without slaughtering the animals as well as prolonging the life of hens with an ethical egg company. Leaves you with a feeling of guilt and shame that you’ve never done anything good for the world. I guess buying from here would be a start?

THE PLASTIC FREE THAT’S NOT ALL ABOUT FRUIT AND VEG
More than just fruit delivery – this is all things organic. They tell you what is in the current week’s box and where it’s come from but you can also customise your own box and the best bit about it is you can do it all online without talking to someone over the phone – revolutionary. Even still they are a small, friendly and local service with a big reach. Also more than 1 delivery to an area per week.

THE MARKET STALL WITH A PRETTY & INTERESTING WEBSITE
Read about how to keep your gut healthy on the blog of this illustrated website that someone has taken a lot of time and care over. Makes a change. The pictures are pretty and the large box gets you 4 or 5 (errrr 5 please) different types of fruit each week but you made need a few for a larger office. A monthly market stall in Bounds Green where you can buy something interesting apparently. Fewer chemicals, less imports, low carbon footprint, high animal welfare, no routine use of antibiotics, free from GM – same as the others really.
